Hi there, new VA!
I am so happy you’re here!
The world of becoming an online virtual assistant is SO rewarding and so much fun! I am so excited for you to thrive and grow, and earn the $$$ you deserve!
As a newcomer, it can be easy to fall into many different traps. I want you to learn from the common mistakes I’ll list here so you can thrive on your journey!
Why struggle through trial and error when you don’t have to! Am I right!?
Amazing! Let’s get into it!
Here are the top 5 common mistakes a new virtual assistant should avoid :
#1 Not niching down
When you are starting your journey, you will feel like you want to be everything for everyone.
When in fact, the BEST thing you can do for your business is to niche yourself down to be THE person that a specific person/group is looking for.
You will hit way more people this way and speak to your dream client way more effectively.
If niching down is something you struggle with, you should check out my post Becoming a Virtual assistant.
#2 Trying to be on every single platform
You will see virtual assistants on every platform. Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIN, Pinterest – the list really does go on and on.
It’s important to note that trying to be on every single platform will do the exact opposite of what you are trying to do.
Spreading yourself too thin is a quick way to burnout-frustration central. Plus, it’s really really hard to do.
By trying to be everywhere, you will end up being nowhere. Instead, pick 1-2 platforms that your clients are on and that you truly enjoy – and focus on creating a presence for THAT platform.
100% way more effective that way.
#3 Not creating content that your ideal client aligns with
Remember when you’re posting to social media that your posts are meant for your client. Use their language, their way of speaking. Focus on their pain points and their struggles and use this to speak to THEM.
Your clients want to feel heard and this will keep you on track to making them feel understood!
#4 Not creating a client journey
If you are nervous about onboarding a potential client – one GREAT thing you can do is map out their journey.
From the point of networking with them and pitching your services all the way to cashing out and receiving that sweet sweet testimonial.
Build that confidence within yourself by creating a journey that the client will walk through while working with you.
#5 Thinking you need to be all set up and perfect before you start signing clients
On socials, it’s so easy to get distracted by all the fancy lingo, flashy launches and this or that.
Limited beliefs and perfectionism tends to creep up badly when you’re building a business for yourself.
Well, I’m here to tell you to do it anyways.
No, it won’t be easy and some days it will be really really hard. BUT those are times when you have to do it anyways even more.
You do not have to have everything all set up right away. In fact, it’s hard to when you’re just beginning. Your clients – as you go will teach you everything you need to along the way.
Continue learning, investing in yourself and trying because as long as you keep showing up – you can figure it out along the way.
Never let “not knowing enough” stop you because reality is, there will always be something left to learn.
You’ve got this.
#6 Thinking you have to do ALL of the services in order to be a virtual assistant
One of the things I see the most, are new virtual assistants thinking they have to do EVERY single service.
Listen, your ideal client is looking for YOU and your skills that you possess.
Having a lot of skills is great but if you can do 1-3 tasks amazingly, I say lean into THAT.
For example, let’s say you’re really really good at engagement and lead generation. If you are marketing your services for pinterest managing, graphic design, scheduling and engagement – you don’t seem too much of an expert.
Now, let’s say you come in and call yourself an engagement specialist – your ideal client will be MAGNETIZED to you because they are looking for exactly that.
Lean into your skills and your passions and your client will follow.
Learning from these common mistakes will help guide you to succeed on your journey. It’s all about knowing who your clients are and learning how to get in FRONT of them.
