Feeling overwhelmed? Learn how to re-align to feel clarity in your life.
Have you ever experienced a time where you felt you were “in the right place”? For example, you felt as though there was hardly anything in that present moment that you would change. Maybe you had a handle on your social life, your money situation was decent, and you were feeling put together and alright.
Want to know what that feeling was?
You were living aligned. You had arrived at a moment where all the things you prioritize, your values and your beliefs were being met at once.
The goal is to live intentionally, in a way that you arrive at this moment often.
The opposite feeling is something we all have experienced before. Those times where you feel like you just can’t get a handle on life. Things that were important to you haven’t been fulfilled and now you feel lost and out of control. Oftentimes, we find that these moments are what make us feel unmotivated, tired and depressed.
It’s clear that by living aligned, we come out feeling more happy, fulfilled and alive.
How do we live aligned to who we are?
The truth is, living aligned – like most things – takes practice, inner reflection and consistency. I encourage you to take your time and really listen to yourself. Your inner self will tell you things that you might not know so it’s important to listen carefully! Here are 3 tips that will help you live a more aligned life.
Identify your core values
Your core values in life hold so much power. They are what we value in life the most. Essentially, the moment you realize what your core values are, making decisions and living your life aligned to what you value gets easier. You will feel more fulfilled and aligned, the more you make decisions based on your values.
Some examples of core values are :
Success Health Consistency Generosity
Family Empathy Accountability Relationships
Freedom Security Risk-Taking Popularity
The list truly goes on. I encourage you to think about these, but don’t overthink too hard. Realistically, you already know the answer. What do you value the most? Pick three things that mean a lot to you. These are your core values. These are the areas in your life, that above all – you need to make sure are being recognized and fulfilled.
Learn how to say ‘No’
Often, our lives feel messy or hard to handle because we have too much on our plate. Maybe we are dealing with stress, lack of sleep, or simply we have run out of time to spend dedicated to values (see above).
This is the moment we need to recognize and be able to say no. There will come times in your life that you will need to prioritize feeling better. If that means you can’t go out for drinks on Tuesday, or if it means that you have to spend time with your loved ones rather than finishing that project – you have to learn how to step away and say no.
Looking at what you value the most, and making the decision accordingly – will help you in receiving clarity.
You cannot make a wrong decision if you are basing it on your values.
YOU get to decide what you value more.
Prioritize and take action
What you do with your new found knowledge on values – is what will change how you feel. In order to make those messy, confusing times more rare, you must prioritize what you value often.
Meaning, If you know that spending time with your family is a value of yours – prioritizing weekly check-ins with them might be something you would want to include.
Or, maybe one of your values is success. This might mean, talking with a life coach, picking up some inspiring books, or possibly listening to podcasts every night.
At the end of the day, take your three values and decide on ways you can honour them every day/week/month. It’s important to take the time to make sure that these are being met.
Do something small every single day for YOU.
Final thoughts
Whatever your values are, living by them and honouring them are the key to living an aligned life.
It’s about putting yourself first. Knowing what’s best for yourself and giving yourself what you deserve.
Living an aligned life is all about your values and beliefs and making sure your needs are being met.
